When St. Louis celebrates, we do it with Miss Hulling’s. Available exclusively at Straub’s Bakery, this legendary cake is famous for its "Split Layer" style - featuring multiple thin, moist layers of cake stacked high with rich frosting in between. It is the delicious taste you remember, made fresh to mark your special occasions.
A Note on Shipping & Presentation: We want to be honest, the same qualities that make this cake so delicious - the extreme moisture and delicate layers - make it incredibly difficult to ship.
- We freeze every cake and ship via Overnight Air to give it the best chance of survival.
- However, we cannot guarantee a picture-perfect arrival. Shifting, cracking, and icing sticking to the box often occur during transit.
- Our Recommendation: If presentation is critical for a special event, we strongly recommend In-Store Pickup at one of our St. Louis markets. If you simply crave that famous Miss Hulling's taste (and don't mind eating it straight out of the box!), we are happy to ship it to you.

I grew up in North Saint Louis County, both of our parents were born and raised in Saint Louis. Growing up in Florissant my folks told us kids about life in Saint Louis during the 1920's, 30's and 40's. We learned about Miss Florence Hullings and her famous Split Layer Cakes early in our youth. Our parents were not wealthy so when they splerged on a cake from Hulling's Bakery, that was a real treat. The cakes that Straubs Bakery are producing today are true to those Miss Hullings Bakery was providing to the residents of Saint Louis back in those days that our parents told us about and treated us to when we were lucky. Straubs, themselves, are another well-known and famous Saint Louis producer of fine grocery items, and it was fortunate for all of us "old Saint Louisians" that the Straubs organization stepped forward to carry on the traditions of Hullings for all of us with fond memories of both of these beloved Saint Louis traditions. Miss Florence would be honored and proud. I live in Houston now and these folks here sure do appreciate fine grocery foods, especially split-layer cakes! Take care!
The cake itself was delicious as usual , but when i opened the package half the icing was on the package instead the cake which i fault fedex for, not the store
