In this year's Sauce Magazine Reader's Choice Awards, Straub's won Favorite Butcher in St. Louis for the third year in a row as well as finishing runner-up in Favorite Chain Grocery Store and Favorite Gourmet Market.

The expert neighborhood butcher is a dying breed, but the trade is alive and well in Straub's meat-meister Joe Lucas, who has a loyal following of carnivores. "We have a lot of repeat customers, and the Kobe beef has just added to that. We've had it since Father's Day last year, and it's really taken off," said Lucas. "The burger is a great way to get into Kobe beef. It is just drop-dead good." Lucas' signature item is the Saratoga ribeye, characterized by the meticulous extrication of all the fat. "You can eat it from end to end, and it's just fantastic."
