BEST BITES: American Kobe Beef
By Joe Bonwich
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
06/14/2006

For the foodie dad who has everything - and when money is no object - Straub's is offering the Ferrari of beef: steaks and hamburger from Wagyu cattle raised in America, called "American Kobe" because the style emulates Japan's famous Kobe beef.

The cattle are fed with special techniques, and they get an all-natural diet without byproducts or hormones. The result is a richly flavored, tender beef that's lower in saturated fat than regular American beef.

Straub's notes that supplies are limited; call or visit to ensure your order is ready for Father's Day.

Price: Strip steaks, $59.99 a pound; ground beef, $8.99 a pound, at Straub's.
