We had a very special guest at the Central West End location yesterday: Two-year-old Abe and his family from the UK are in St. Louis for a very serious surgery to take place at Children’s Hospital. Abe was born with a certain form of Cerebral Palsy called Spastic Diplegia. His family has raised nearly all of the money needed to cover the costs of the operation, which totals around $75,780.00 according to their website. After their visit to Straub’s, Abe’s father had this to say:

When we first arrived in St. Louis we stumbled upon Straub’s; a lovely grocery store/deli in the Central West End selling lots of yummy food. The thing that stood out was that everyone was so welcoming. Abe being Abe was tearing around in his walker and gaining lots of attention when one of the staff (think his name was Ron) gave him an orange balloon (matched his hoody). We then got chatting at the checkout and we explained why we were in St Louis. Ron (hope that’s your name) then announced to the store that they should pray for Abe on the eve of his operation. Everyone cheered. It was a lovely moment.

It has to be said that the Americans know how to do customer service. And since arriving we’ve been really impressed.

Abe will be in our thoughts and we wish him and his family the best for their future. To learn more about Abe, visit Abe’s Adventure.
